“The young watch, for the young.”
To capture the spirit of the era, Tissot launched a marketing campaign echoed through the airwaves with bold slogans, “The young watch, for the young.” The choice of materials plus the avant-garde design and affordability, the Tissot Sideral embodied a resounding declaration, this was not your father’s watch.
Vibrant, sporty, and fashionable. Dated from the 1970s, this is an emblematic timepiece with a rich history. This is a vintage Tissot Sideral automatic wristwatch, Sideral was the world's first fiberglass watch, featuring a lightweight yet robust design.
It is a selfwinding watch powered by an original Tissot automatic movement, sweep second, date indicator, Swiss made. Serviced in July 2023.

This iconic Tissot model was built with durability in mind, cased in a 36.2mm cushion case. The case is a bakelite-fibreglass compound, two substances well known for their tensile strength and, most notably with fibreglass, insulating properties. Original Tissot crown and it also comes with the original Tissot fold over clasp bracelet that will fit up to 7” (17.8cm).
The Sideral represented a groundbreaking technological breakthrough, distinguished by its pioneering use of a one-piece Swedish fiberglass case combined with steel. While fiberglass had gained recognition in industries such as aeronautics, its application in watchmaking was nothing short of revolutionary. This innovative material bestowed the Sideral with a multitude of advantages, catapulting it to the forefront of high-tech manufacturing.
Today, the legacy of the Sideral lives on, an enduring testament to the boldness and vision of Tissot.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.
We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear but is fully operational and functions as intended.
Please review the photos and feel free to ask any questions you may have.
